Dominion

It was one of those huge, blue-sky summer days. I invited a friend over to capture the rare moment of unrivalled halcyon perfection with gourmet ice-tea. No sooner had we gotten comfortably ensconced, settled down into a cozy chat, when, of course, a large wasp buzzed around with aggressive and annoying persistence, attracted by the sweet drinks. While I was reaching for something to give it a good swat, Shannon barked out “leave or die, wasp!” After I picked my jaw up from the floor, amazed at these strong words from one of my most mild-mannered of associates, I thought to myself, “Dang it! She’s got something there. That’s the Dominion Principle!” She was warning the smallest of creatures that they had a choice to obey or suffer the consequences. Brilliant. She was enforcing the Genesis 1:27-28 decree of authority.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

As adults, it doesn’t take long for us to become aware that life has some nasty twists and turns they didn’t warn you about in Sunday School. Time and tide blow us around on the winds of change often with very little warning, as with our current experience. While we are subject to forces beyond our control, we are not powerless. Helplessness is not our portion from the Lord in any season. We still have jurisdiction. We have dominion.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. Colossians 1:13-14

As I read this verse in my quiet time this week, it literally leapt off the page at me. Firstly, I was reminded who is really holding the reins. Hello. Here in 2020, He is granting us a unique moment of revelation, a singular privilege, so pay attention. This is a prophetic heads-up! Not only are we smack-dab in the middle of a completely unprecedented global phenomenon, this year contains an extraordinary anointing, enabling us to see into the realms of spirit which are usually veiled to us. “Thrones, dominions, principalities and authorities” are being revealed, exposed in the most glaring of colors.

In case you haven't noticed, control is not where we thought it was. The little tin gods of success, ambition, education, money, or fame we looked to for protection have shocking feet of clay. Foundations are being shaken. As believers however, we are just hitting our stride. We're getting our heads together and exercising spiritual muscles that have been a tad atrophied. The keys of the Kingdom we’ve been gangling uselessly in our pockets fit doors this world is desperate to see open. The Lord is gloriously at work through us; the means He has chosen against an impossible plague situation. Step into your privilege. Stand up to the forces of evil.

And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. Ephesians 1:19-21

Dominion is a potent word. Greek Kyriotes means lordship; government, rule, mastery. It’s telling us that wherever Jesus reigns in our lives, dominion will automatically, unquestionably, manifest. Without effort, His kingdom will come.

Ok, we're dealing with something bigger than wasps, but I’m taking my dominion to heart. As a king and priest to my God, every day, I declare that this virus is unclean. It’s a curse, a usurper on the earth, and it’s got to go.

What would happen if believers, everywhere, spoke in unity? Disease itself would die. It's time to release a wave of unparalleled healing anointing. Let’s bless those on all front lines, endowing them with supernatural energy and wisdom. Never have leaders at all levels been more vulnerable, more receptive to godly wisdom and righteousness. Remember, Canada itself has an anointing to be ‘healing to the nations’, so it’s time to seize our blessing. The last laugh is ours.

Jesus answered them "Is it not written in your law,'I said Ye are gods'"? John 10:34 KJV
