Dominion

So, who is running the world these days? It certainly doesn’t feel like governments, traditional institutions, or even religious bastions. An unknown virus, appearing overnight and invading every corner of the planet was really the force to be reckoned with. After a season of wholesale bedlam, we’d swear it’s the increasing tempest of voices blasting us from media platforms.

CNN can overwhelm you with sound-bites and speculation. Without regular, faithful participation in worship and meditating the Word, you can quickly forget that God Almighty is, in fact, ordering the universe. The little blue planet third from the sun has His undivided attention. We are His dominion, but to understand that, you will need to revisit ancient precepts of Scripture. God alone wrote the Book on power.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed by negativity, nothing is as soul-reviving as stumbling across a scriptural Rhema that suddenly electrifies you to His presence. One word can shift your entire paradigm. Recently, a scripture flooded me with calm assurance.

Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7

Although Babylon seems to control the nations, this much underestimated verse sitting quietly in Isaiah 9 emphatically states otherwise. Can you grasp this? Do you believe it? The Lordship of Christ is increasing, slowly, covertly and surely everywhere. Peace, wisdom, stability and justice are on the ascendency and all elements of evil and corrupted disorder are actually passing away. His reign is growing. Never have we been closer to the great day of His return.

Not only have sin, death, flesh, the world and the Devil been defeated by Christ, but each believer carries His latent authority within them. Remember when Jesus sent out His disciples on their maiden mission? There were precious few resources at hand, but they prevailed, nonetheless.

Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to expel evil spirits and heal all kinds of disease and infirmity.

Concentrate on the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go proclaim that the kingdom of Heaven has arrived. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure the lepers, drive out devils— give, as you have received, without any charge whatever.

Matthew 10:1, 6-8 JB Phillips

The kingdom of Heaven is at hand”. What a mouthful! Where is all this power? Sadly, we simply don’t believe this incredible authority that has been granted to us and act on it. We are all too often overwhelmed by every evidence of corruption around us. Instead of tapping into the reality of His domain and directing the power of it, we stay passive, intimidated, silenced. We long to see our country saved, turned to righteousness, but how exactly is that done?

Recently, a church of our FCA denomination came under the conviction to enter a forty-day fast for Canada. See Stand - 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting (40daystand.ca). They invite all others to join them. We are pressing in for major blessings for leaders and legislation to be in wisdom and righteousness for our land. I extend this information to you, with the encouragement to join the wave of God’s Spirit as the fast culminates on 1 July, Canada Day.

We tend to get bogged down in our intercession for the country by trying to cover every issue or bill coming before legislation. It exhausts us and we don’t see much fruit from that kind of praying. What might be entirely more effectual is simply reinforcing the intrinsic domain of the Lord. Instead of warring against individuals and positions, declare the truth “He shall have dominion from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth” (Psalm 72:8). When His supremacy is proclaimed, it actually activates angelic activity over dysfunctional situations.

Vocalizing profound truths of Scripture confounds the enemy. Enforce the will of God against strongholds of wickedness, deception, fraudulence or perversion. Countermand evil by clearly stating the Lord’s intent for that situation. This releases the Kingdom into the earth in very, very practical and yet highly spiritual ways. Thank Him for His Lordship, His unrelenting faithfulness, His wonderful plans for every part of His creation. Speaking the Word in a declarative manner strengthens your own soul and sends the enemy into panicked retreat. If only we knew how powerful we, as believers, really are. How effectual our prayers! The Kingdom is at hand, and it’s coming through us.

Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Luke 11:2
